This weekend was the dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. Also in October 1964 , he won the Nobel Peace Prize.
The monument design was based on his famous speech, I Have a Dream, in which he states "Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope." See

Benjamin Banneker was an author, scientist, mathematician, farmer, astronomer, publisher and urban planner. He assisted in surveying the city that would become the nation's captial. (
