Atlantis- Space Shuttle

Michael Ardan went to watch the last shuttle mission of NASA.  It was ending its program after 30 years.

Michael Ardan is a Shuttle Astronaut.  The box was titled "Space Voyagers" from 1981 to present.   30 years.  The figure came out in 1999 from Action Products International.  His name was not on the box but on his uniform.

  1. How come it's so hard to find information on this doll? Did other astronaut dolls come out like this one that represented other astronauts? Was this supposed to represent the astronaut from Washington state or a character from, Jules Verne's Moon Book: From Earth to the Moon or both?

  2. I was the product development director at Action Products International when this doll was introduced. I picked the name "Michael Ardan" because we needed a name and I thought it would be cool to make a quiet tribute to Michel Ardan, the first fictitious astronaut from Verne's book. This was an off-the-shelf doll that I dressed in astronaut uniform, the product was simply called "African American Astronaut" (not my idea). Later, when I developed a line of astronaut action figures from scratch, the Space Shuttle Mission Specialist figure was black, but was marketed by his name and his role, not his skin color. It's hard to find info on these because the company is no longer around and the figures have not been manufactured since 2005 or so.

  3. Hello, I have this doll Michael Ardan, NASA, but it's not black, it's white. Do you have some more information about this doll? I read by the product director of Action Products that the doll was black. So why do I have a white male Doll?
